The COB recently commenced building an online database of course syllabi. The system will be built over Summer 2008 using syllabi from summer courses in the pilot test. By Fall 2008 a user interface will be available for students, faculty, and any of our various external publics to examine our course syllabi.
"The database will allow for students to check out a course and its typical requirements before enrolling," said Neil Terry, Dean of the COB. "The syllabus has thus become an online marketing tool," he added.
Also being implemented is a new syllabus template that will bring uniformity in look and feel to all syllabi, as well as common language regarding University and COB policies. "As we put our AACSB accreditation efforts in high gear, it becomes increasingly important for us to demonstrate that we are functioning from a common starting point," said Nick Gerlich, the COB's Director of Continuous Improvement.
While the database will have no "history" prior to Summer 2008, it will grow with each subsequent semester's syllabi. In time it will house a vast repository of information that will help the COB better market its many course offerings.
